Safe and Sound!

We are here and we are absolutely loving it. We flew into Nairobi at 6:30 in the morning, and at about 8:30 we still hadn't been picked up. There was a confusion in what day we were arriving so finally after finding a phone number and calling Mama Zipporah we ended up taking a taxi for about 30 minutes until we got to the home.

Where the home is located it is absolutely beautiful. I can see why people want to visit Kenya! We are in the hills and it is so green with so many trees and even a picture wouldn't do it justice.

The kids are amazing! The kids range from less than 1 year to 18 years old. Right now we are just hanging out and getting to know the kids. School starts again on Wednesday so routine will start again. Trying to learn all of the kids names is a little tough. They will come running up to you and ask you if you remember their name so you are forced to learn them very quickly. It's funny when they start telling jokes in Swahili and they are all laughing and then have to re-explain it to us. Soon enough we will learn...(I've already can say numbers 1-10, hello how are you, I am fine, praise the Lord and I'm working on some songs)

Sarah, Cassidy and I live in a guesthouse, and later today another volunteer from Germany will be joining us. We have a kitchen, a shower (with warm water) a toilet that flushes (kinda) and bunk beds to sleep on. We haven't really seen many mosquitos but we keep our bug nets up at night anyways, just to be careful.

We have prayers in the morning and in the evening and the people here are very charismatic. We sing and dance a lot. T0day mama was explaining how one of the children she knows is being beat and burned by her mother and is in the hospital but the police say there is not enough evidence to take her out of her home. She is still fighting to protect her and bring her to the home. Pray that this girl is protected and can find a life where she will be safe.

I have many more stories, but too little of time right now. I will share more later. If you have questions, leave them in a comment and we will try to answer them.

Please pray that we are able to pick up the language fast, remember names and continue to have energy for the day.

We thank you for your prayers,
Joelle (on behalf of the three of us)

Hi there! Great to read your first impressions, and hope you find time to update . . . it likely won't be that easy to find time, as I'm sure you'll be kept super busy. Will keep checking for more though! :-) God bless you all, we're praying for you! --Norma DR
